UKA competition rules define the competition year as running from the beginning of October to the end of September the following year.

For track and field purposes (both indoors and out) this means that athletes who are in school year four and five are classified as under 11, those in school year two and three are classified as under 9 and those in reception and year one are classified as under 7.

Those athletes in year six are classified as under 13’s and will generally move up to train with the juniors in February/March.

For cross-country (endurance) purposes the competition year remains the same but runs a year behind i.e.  athletes who are in school year five and six are classified as under 11, those in school year three and four are classified as under 9 and those in reception, year one and year two are classified as under 7.

The Guernsey Athletics Colts section currently has approx. 100 athletes ranging from older year ones through to year six. The training times and venue are set out below:

Tuesday and Thursday  Under 7’s / Under 9’s / Under 11’s
Footes Lane (summer and winter) – 5.00 pm – 6.15 pm

For training purposes those athletes in year 6 move up to the u13’s (juniors) generally late February of each year.

There is a waiting list for the younger age groups (mainly Rec/year one / year two), however, should parents / guardians commit to “helping” out during the sessions then it may be possible to take their child on earlier than if they were to be placed on the waiting list.
